Nestled in the historic town of Rye, The Ship has been a local fixture since 1592, and we’re thrilled to announce our latest initiative to give back to the place we’re proud to call home.
From Autumn 2024, every time you enjoy our freshly battered fish and chips, you’re supporting a vital cause. For every portion sold, we’ll donate £1 to Rye Food Bank, a local charity that provides essential support to individuals and families in crisis. With fish and chips as one of our most popular dishes, we’re aiming to make a meaningful impact in our community—one delicious meal at a time.
Rye Food Bank plays a crucial role in supporting vulnerable individuals, delivering food to up to 100 people weekly in Rye and surrounding villages. Staffed entirely by dedicated volunteers, the charity ensures that those facing hardship have access to essential resources as well as legal and social support.
Bob Harper, Manager at Rye Food Bank, emphasises the importance of local involvement:
“The Food Bank in Rye is a community-driven response to the challenges many face. We’re incredibly grateful for the selfless donations from residents and partnerships with local businesses like The Ship. Initiatives like this extend the network of community support, ensuring we can continue our vital work.”
Harper continues:
“The idea of inviting diners to contribute directly through their meal is fantastic. It helps us provide immediate relief to those in need while strengthening ties between residents and businesses. The volunteers at Rye Food Bank are excited to promote this partnership and The Ship Inn as a cornerstone of our community.”
Will Levene General Manager at The Ship Inn, shares his enthusiasm for the collaboration:
“We’re proud to partner with Rye Food Bank and support their tireless efforts to assist those in crisis. Their work is a lifeline for so many in our community, and we’re honoured to contribute to their mission through this campaign.”
But the impact doesn’t stop with fish and chips. The Ship Inn also invites customers to donate funds or food, run their own fundraising campaigns, or even volunteer their time. Every contribution helps strengthen the community we all cherish.
Every time you order our fish and chips, you’re not just treating yourself—you’re helping to support neighbours in need. Want to do more? Visit Rye Food Bank’s website to learn how you can donate, volunteer, or organise a fundraiser. Small gestures create lasting change, and together, we can make a big difference.
At The Ship Inn, we’re proud to be more than just a pub—we’re a community partner. Let’s come together to support Rye Food Bank and strengthen the bonds that make Rye such a special place to live. Let’s make a difference together, one fry at a time.
